Brattleby gets the green light

Our Brattleby project has been granted planning permission.

Despite the site already having planning permission for a new house this has been a surprisingly tricky planning process.

There were a number of objections to our original scheme so we went back to the drawing board. This meant reconsidering how to a modern, sustainable home should sit within the sensitive context of the conservation area.

We worked closely with our fantastic clients, Lee & Jaclyn, and a heritage consultant [Grover Lewis] to carefully negotiate with the planning officer, conservation officer and parish council. This culminated in Lee’s impassioned speech at the planning committee resulting in an almost unanimous vote in our favour.

Our design utilises Lee & Jaclyn’s budget to create a generous and light filled home that will work perfectly for their family. The building will use local stone and tile with contemporary detailing. We have kept the double-height entrance, which was an original design feature. Made from zinc, this links two sections of the home together and showcases the surrounding views of the conservation area.

The home will sit well within the village, whilst being a modern, highly sustainable family home

We’ve designed the house to meet the AECB performance standard. It’ll be extremely warm and comfortable for them to live in, whilst using very little energy compared to a typical home.

“Our planning journey was a lot more intense and involved more ups and downs than we could have ever anticipated. However, we ended on a high and the feeling of elation when planning permission was finally granted for our dream home, will stay with us forever. Alan really stepped up to the mark after a particularly tricky beginning and supported us throughout the process.”  Jaclyn & Lee

We can now focus on how we will live in our home and we are really looking forward to enjoying the fabulous double height feature and open plan rear of the house, which will be the hub of the home and enable us to have a great connection with the garden.

Next steps

Lee and Jaclyn are keen to start on site as quickly as possible and we’re working towards a July start date.
