Our favourite builds without planning permission

Worried about trying to get planning permission for your project? You needn’t be as not all projects need permission.

Many, from small extensions to loft conversions, can be undertaken within your Permitted Development Rights.

Have a read of our latest blog to find out what you can achieve without planning permission.

We also hope our favourites below provides some inspiration!

Brick House, San Francisco –  Azevedo Design
A small and minimal roof remodel to an original brick building that accommodates a mezzanine floor.
I really like its simplicity and the brick/metal combo. [Julie]

H-VAC, London – PUP Architects

PUP Architects’ winning Antepavilion entry “H-VAC” is satisfyingly shrewd. Disguised as rooftop ducting, it was constructed as “mechanical rooftop equipment” which doesn’t need planning permission. [Liam]

Regent Street Dormer, Edinburgh – Konishi Gaffney Architects
Konishi Gaffney Architects produce some elegant and beautiful work. This simple project transforms the attic space of a terraced house. I really enjoy the large window with the separate timber clad opening for ventilation. Given the quality materials and attention to detail, the £32K budget is very modest. [Paul]

Broxholm Road, London – Selencky Parsons
I love the simplicity of this dormer extension. It uses the staid, red clay tiles beloved of most planning departments but in a modern way. The transformation adds wow factor to this 1930s semi. [Al]

Ewelme Road, London – 2LG Studio

I’m a huge fan of 2LG Studio’s work. I love this bright blue kitchen extension and mixture of colours and textures. It feels inviting and relaxing. [Fera]

Thompson Park, Burnley – Burnley Borough Council

Multiple small public buildings have been renovated as part of Thompson Park’s restoration. This has given an injection of TLC into an already much-loved park. [Marcus]
